Wooden case for silver cavalry trumpet : 13/18 Royal Hussars, Tobruk Memorial
Black painted wooden case of nailed construction with a tapering length matching the cavalry trumpet. The case is fitted with a hinged lid with a swing brass handle, a pair of sliding brass clasps and a brass keyed lock. The interior appears to be lined with purple mohair and has been fitted out to fully enclose the trumpet. The lid is been labelled in white paint 'SILVER TRUMPET BAND 13/18 ROYAL HUSSARS' and addressed to 'THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT, THE AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL CANBERRA AUSTRALIA'.
Storgae and transport box for one of a set of six silver cavalry trumpets belonging to the 13/18 Hussars, which were formed by an amalgamation of the 13th and 18th Royal Hussars in 1922. The original engraving on the bell relates to the initial 1922 presentation of this trumpet by Mrs Moller in memory of her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Moller, who had seen service in the Boer War and First World War. This trumpet was then used to sound the Last Post and Reville at the opening of the Australian War Memroial at Tobruk in 1948. Arrangements were made by the Australian War Memorial Board for a replacement presentation trumpet to be forwarded to 13/18 Hussars in exchange for this example.
