Two cakes of saltwater soap from an Australian Comforts Fund army embarkation kit. Remnants of brown paper packaging remain around the soap.
History / Summary
At the outbreak of the Second World War the Australian Comforts Fund adopted a program to issue embarkation kits to all servicemen and women embarking for active service abroad. The kits were tailored to the requirements of the different branches of service and included practical comforts such as soap, towels, socks, razor blades and handkerchiefs.
