Description

Studio portrait probably of 5100 Private (Pte) John Tudor Griffiths, 9th Battalion. A farmer from Teven, New South Wales, (formerly of Rhyl, North Wales) prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 16th Reinforcements from Sydney on 31 March 1916 aboard HMAT Star of Victoria (A16) for Port Said. His battalion was in the process of relocating to the Western Front, France, consequently he did not join them at Pozieres until 24 July 1916.
