A male volunteer showing mustard gas burns on his arm and abdomen. The darkened patches of skin are one of the final stages of healing and it peeled off several days later. The chemical experiments were undertaken by the Australian Chemical Warfare Field and Experimental Section, later known as the 1st Field Trials Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE).
