Description

A view of the living quarters inside Holzminden prisoner of war (POW) camp. There are three beds, each with a trunk or suitcase beneath, and small cabinets overhead. Clothing and towels hang from hooks or makeshift washing lines on the wall. In the foreground is a table on which are placed crockery and food. On 24 July 1918, 29 prisoners escaped through a tunnel that they had dug; 19 were re-captured.
