Informal portrait of 288 Sergeant (later Lieutenant) Cuthbert Victor (Bertie) Heron, 60th Battalion, of St Kilda, Vic. A bank clerk prior to enlisting on 14 March 1916, he embarked from Melbourne, Vic, aboard HMAT Persic on 3 June 1916. He died on 27 June 1918, in England, from a gun shot wound to the left leg received at Villers Bretonneux on 25 April 1918, and is buried in Crockham Hill Churchyard, Westerham.
