Naval Sweetheart Brooch
Description
Sweetheart brooch made of a row of three attached gilded brass naval buttons featuring a St Edward's crowned anchor. The reverse of the brooch has a hinged horizontal pin clasp and is fitted with a safety chain and pin.
History / Summary
Often worn by female relatives and/or a girlfriend or wife, sweetheart brooches were a symbol of pride, support and affection for a loved one serving in the armed forces. They could be purchased by the women themselves or given as a gift by the serviceman concerned.
