Description
Studio portrait of 1337 (Pte) Private Frederick Charles Waine, 1st Reinforcements, 4th Battalion, of Rockdale, NSW. A clerk with the Rockwood Council, Pte Waine enlisted on 7 October 1914 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles on 22 December 1914. The 4th Battalion was sent to Egypt and from there they were sent to the Gallipoli Peninsula where they took part in the action at Lone Pine. Pte Waine was killed during that battle on 1 May 1915 at Gallipoli, aged 26 years.
