Description
Studio portrait of Lieutenant Reginald Black, 6th Light Horse Regiment, of Boggabri, NSW (originally of Sydney). A grazier prior to enlistment, he embarked from Sydney on HMAT Suevic (A29) on 21 December 1914, as a Private with the service number 578. He was wounded in action at Um Urgan, Palestine on 16 August 1917 and died of his wounds on 17 August 1917 at the 65th Casualty Clearing Station, Rafa, Palestine, aged 31. He is buried in the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. On 26 September 1917, he was posthumously awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a night reconnaissance near KH. IMLEIH, Palestine on 30/31 July 1917.
