Description
Studio portrait of Lieutenant Francis Halliday, 4th Field Artillery Brigade (4FAB) of Scone, NSW. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Persic (A34) on 18 November 1915 as 7596 Gunner Francis Halliday, 5th Field Artillery Brigade. On 23 November 1918, he was returning to the 10th Battery, 4 FAB near Tertry, France when his horse slipped on ice causing him to fall and fracture his skull. He was admitted to the 58th Casualty Clearing Station, France where he remained unconscious and died on 28 November 1918, aged 26. He is buried in Tincourt New British Cemetery, France.
