Studio portrait of 2409 Private (later Corporal) Harrie Linden Murphy, 7th Light Horse Regiment (later 2nd Australian Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron), of Bombala, NSW. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Palermo (A56) on 18 April 1916. On 28 August 1918, aged 29, he was killed in action in the Jordan Valley, Palestine. He is buried in the Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel. His brother, 3096 Private Roy Badgery Murphy, 33rd Battalion, died of wounds, on 29 September 1918.
