Description
Studio portrait of 954 Private (later Sergeant) William Arthur Peed, 7th Australian Light Horse Regiment of Newcastle, NSW (originally of Wairepo via Taihape, New Zealand). A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Newcastle aboard HMAT Kabinga (A58) on 21 May 1915. On 28 March 1918, aged 28, during the Battle of Amman, Syria he was wounded in action and died later that day en route to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance Station. He is buried in the Damascus Commonwealth War Cemetery, Syria.
