Summer service dress tunic : Brigadier F D Buckland, Australian Army
Officer's khaki summer service dress tunic with shoulder straps, pointed cuffs, pleated breast pockets with triple pointed flaps, large expanding hip pockets with rectangular flaps, and a centre back vent. The lapels bear red wool and scarlet gimp gorget patches for a staff officer, secured by small gold anodised aluminium staff's officer's pattern buttons. The shoulder straps, pockets and four button centre front fastening are secured by gold anodised aluminium Royal Australian Survey Corps buttons. Each shoulder strap carries gold anodised rank insignia for a brigadier, and appear also to have originally carried the letter 'R' (retired), which has been removed. Two rows of medal ribbons are sewn above the left breast pocket for Officer of the Order of the British Empire (military), 1939-45 star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, British War Medal 1939-45, Australia Service Medal and General Service Medal (1918-1962) with mentioned in despatches oak leaf. There is a small self fabric belt keeper at each side seam, but the belt is missing. A green and gold woven tape across the back neck reads 'C.G.C.F.'. There are two black printed labels inside the left front. One gives care instructions, the other reads 'C.G.C.F. /VICTORIA// 1970 (broad arrow)/ ARMY NO./ NAME'. The tunic is partially lined, including the sleeves, with khaki nylon; the seam edges and inside breast pocket are edged with the same fabric. There is a pair of concealed hooks and eyes at the waist for additional fastening.
Associated with the service of Colonel Francis Desmond Buckland.
