Associated with the service of 8317 Sergeant John Reginald Hamblin, born Belvedere, England on 23 April 1906 and who was living in Fairfield, Victoria when he enlisted with the RAAF at Laverton on 29 January 1940. Hamblin mustered as a Carpenter Rigger and after training in Victoria, and gaining promotion from LAC to Corporal to Sergeant by May 1942, served at 4 Repair and Servicing Unit at Pell, Northern Territory from December 1942 until the end of February 1943. He was then attached to 1 and later 8 Service Flying Training School during 1943 and finally assigned to 1 Aircraft Depot (1AD) at Laverton from 22 July 1943 until the cessation of hostilities. He was discharged on 28 August 1945 as medically unfit for further service.
