Studio portrait of 3537 Private Alexander Hugh Hastings, 2nd Battalion, of Newcastle, NSW. A civil servant with the State Fisheries Department prior to enlisting on 5 August 1915, he embarked from Sydney, NSW, aboard HMAT Berrima on 12 December 1915. He was killed in action on 22 July 1916 at Pozieres, France, aged 23.
