Description
Studio portrait of 2620A Private Arthur Ernest Chanter, 7th Battalion, of South Melbourne, Vic, son of Frederick Moor Chanter. A labourer prior to enlisting at South Melbourne, Vic on 21 July 1915, he embarked with the 22nd Battalion from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 27 October 1915 and transferred to the 7th Battalion on 24 February 1916. He was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on 25 July 1916 in France, aged 22. He is buried in Gordon Dump Cemetery Ovillers-La Boiselle, France.
