Studio portrait of 2249 Acting Corporal Alfred Henry Benham, 13th Battalion. A clerk of Botany NSW, he enlisted on 14 May 1915 and sailed with the 6th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Wandilla on 14 June 1915. He died of wounds, aged 20, on 15 August 1915 in Egypt and is buried at Chatby War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. He is believed to be the first soldier from Botany to be killed in action during the First World War.
