Description

Murals painted on large concrete barriers representing a number of United States Army units in front of a medical building at Tallil Air Base. Left to right: a skyline set against a green background with the words '15 April 03 - 14 April 04 OIF 1 [Operation Iraqi Freedom 1] 933rd MP [Military Police] Company Chicago IL [Illinois]', in the bottom right hand corner is the name Ramsay; a large red cross symbol; a bull's head against the backdrop of a snow capped mountains with the words '639th CS [Close Support] Co [Company] Cowboy Up Montana'; a winged dragon, with the words 'OIF 2 [Operation Iraqi Freedom 2] 3625th & 3637th MST [Maintenance Support Team] 3'. In the foreground the words 'Road Closed' have been painted on a concrete barricade. Tallil Air Base had not been used by the Iraqis since 1991, when it was badly damaged during Operation Desert Storm. In March 2003, it was taken over by coalition forces, and used for a number of different purposes, including accommodation and transit camp for troops, quartermaster and supply operations, as well as enemy prisoner of war detention camps.
