An Australian Bushmaster vehicle parked amongst three Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAVs) ...
An Australian Bushmaster vehicle parked amongst three Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAVs) in security formation for the Civil Military Co-operation (CIMIC) Team as they inspect the progress on an Ambulance Station in Al Khidr. Note the pile of bricks in the foreground. CIMIC worked with Iraqi civilians to undertake projects within their villages such as building and restoration of roads, irrigation, power plants and water supply, as well as schools, community centres, veterinary centres, slaughter houses and ambulance and fire stations, and usually paid local contractors to complete the work. The CIMIC team consisted of three members, all of whom are part of the Army Reserve, and were usually accompanied by a four man infantry bodyguard, however at this time they were also accompanied by Military Policeman, Warrant Officer Class 1 Greg Westhead, who undertook a more discreet security role. The ASLAVS always stayed within 300 metres of the team, in this triangle formation, and would follow the foot patrol if they moved outside of the 300 metre radius. Note that the soldiers in the ASLAVs are not wearing helmets due to the 58 degrees celsius heat, but they are wearing body armour.
