Description

A Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicle (IMV) (U55F) (right) and three Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAVs) in the formation for undertaking security for the Civil Military Co-operation (CIMIC) Team as they inspect the progress of a community centre. CIMIC worked with Iraqi civilians to undertake projects within their villages such as building and restoration of roads, irrigation, power plants and water supply, as well as schools, community centres, veterinary centres, slaughter houses and ambulance and fire stations, and usually paid local contractors to complete the work. The CIMIC team consisted of three members, all of whom are part of the Army Reserve, and were usually accompanied by a four man infantry bodyguard, however at this time they were also accompanied by Military Policeman, Warrant Officer Class 1 Greg Westhead, who undertook a more discrete security role. The ASLAV on the left is believed to be number 31B 'Crept in'. A group of Iraqi children have gathered around an unidentified Australian soldier standing near the Bushmaster. The vehicles are parked amongst partially constructed housing and there is building material in piles near them. In the foreground, an unidentified Australian soldier stands near the entrance to the community centre, while outside the gate, the village sheik and a number of other Iraqi men are having a conversation near a land rover.
