Studio portrait 5498 Acting Sergeant Ralph Jones, 17th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, of Golden Square, Bendigo, Vic. A clerk prior to enlisting on 26 July 1915, he possibly served at a Depot before embarking aboard HMAT Euripides on 4 April 1916. On 1 January 1917 Jones was officially promoted to Corporal (Cpl). He was wounded at the First Battle at Bullecourt in France on 11 April 1917 and taken prisoner by the Germans. Cpl Jones died the next day, on 12 April 1917, as a prisoner of war (POW) at Rumaucourt, France.
