Other Voices
Depicts a completely veiled figure of a woman in a red burqa appearing in the foreground of the print, while this is overlaid with a faceless silhouette of another woman whose identity is unknown and almost ghost like in its presence. Her facelessness reflects the lack of identity within the war damaged societies in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Middle East. The title suggests that the women's voices, stories and lives, which present an alternative perspective, have been lost throughout history. At the same time, this image is set against the architectural and aesthetic beauty of the interior of an Islamic building, juxtaposing the rich cultural heritage of countries that are now engaged in warfare and women's position within these countries during the conflict.
