Description
Australian troops, supported by the RAAF during Operation Portsea, had opened up large areas in the Phuoc Tuy Province. The No 35 Squadron Caribou aircraft, known locally as ‘Wallaby Airlines’ were now able to fly into Xuyen Moc, the capital of the Phuoc Tuy Province. O33200 Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Anthony John (Tony) Fookes, of Camberwell, Vic, the Commanding Officer (CO) No 35 Squadron, (left) and O382 Group Captain (Gp Capt) Horton Douglas Marsh, DFC, CO of the RAAF contingent at Vung Tau (right), inspect the runway at the airstrip to test its suitability as a regular place to land Wallaby Airline planes.
