Description

White metal and olive green enamel beret badge in the shape of a United States Army Bell AH-1 Cobra helicopter. The serial number 7155OU can be seen on the tail and 'UNITED STATES ARMY' on the boom. One rotor blade has broken off. The badge is designed to be secured to the beret by a pair of single pins with butterfly clips.

History / Summary

Worn by R62330 Naval Airman Aircraft Handler Geoffrey Brian Barnier during his service with the RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam between 9 September 1970 and 16 June 1971. Barnier, born in June 1946, enlisted for 12 years service in the RAN on 28 July 1963. As a specialist aircraft handler most of his postings alternated between HMAS Albatross, the Naval Air Station near Nowra, NSW, and the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne. These badges were worn on a black beret during service in Vietnam.
