Description
A Japanese man stands in front of a bookshop named Bookseller Atom in Hiroshima. A topical name has been chosen for the bookshop which opened in the ruined city after the Second World War. In the background are the remains of the Hiroshima-Ken Shorei Kan (Prefectural Industry Promotion Building), also known as the Industrial Hall and the Chamber of Commerce, which was severely damaged when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. The building, surrounded by security fencing, has been preserved intact as a peace monument, and is known as the Peace Centre. It has since acquired numerous names such as the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, the Atomic Bomb Dome and the A-bomb Dome.
