Rising sun sweetheart brooch : Warrant Officer Class II M T Healy, Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit
Silver plated Rising Sun hat badge which has been modified to form a sweetheart brooch. A pin fastening has been attached to the reverse and the two lugs used to attach the badge to a hat have been cut off. The original oxidised finish has been covered with silver plate.
Associated with the service of P118 Warrant Officer Class II Maurice Thomas Healy, born on 26 January 1919 in Port Moresby, Papua. Healy, a 23 year old clerk, enlisted for service in the Citizen Military Forces on 27 January 1942 in Port Morseby. He served briefly with 49 Battalion and 8 Military District Reserve Transport Company before being transferred to the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU) on 28 February. On 26 December 1942 Healy was admitted to hospital with malaria. He was sent to Australia for treatment and returned to his unit in New Guinea on 20 June 1943. Healy was discharged on 13 June 1946.
