The film shoot is for an RAN documentary film titled 'New Ship' which covers the commissioning, training and delivery of HMAS Perth (II). Lieutenant George Unwin (far right, wearing a civilian suit), RAN Photographic Officer, is watching the proceedings. Following her commissioning at Boston, Massachusetts, HMAS Perth spent eight months in American waters conducting trials and exercises. On 12 February 1966 she sailed for Australia arriving at Perth on 4 March 1966.
