Description

Australian soldiers moving amongst the graves in a cemetery in Egypt. In the foreground is the grave of SX13756 Private (Pte) Edward George Davis, 2/48th Battalion, of Salisbury, SA. A gardener prior to enlisting on 19 July 1941, Pte Davis was killed in action in Egypt, on 26 October 1942, aged 22 years. In the background are the graves of NX60187 Pte David Maurice Neuss, 2/17th Battalion, of Cooma, NSW, who died of wounds in Libya on 30 October 1942; SX11765 Pte Peter Harris, 2/8th Field Ambulance, of Malvern, SA, killed in action in Egypt on 26 October 1942; SX6905 Pte Kenneth Thomson (spelt Thompson on grave), 2/8th Field Ambulance, of Avenue Range, SA, killed in action in Egypt on 26 October 1942; NX59943 Gunner John Albert Smithers, 3rd Anti Tank Regiment, of Narrandera, NSW, killed in action in Libya, on 29 October 1942.
