Twig brush : Krithia, Gallipoli
Description
Brush made from branches and twigs taken from a small bush, tied together by a rifle pull-through, made of cord (possibly hemp) with a brass cylindrical weight at the end.
History / Summary
This hand made brush was found in January 1919 by Lieutenant William Hopkin James in a trench near Krithia at Helles . James was working on Gallipoli leading a small party from the Australian War Records Section, taking photographs and collecting items for the national collection. The brush may have been used to clean a trench or a dug out.
