Wire cutters : Rhododendron Ridge, Gallipoli
Description
Cast metal British wire cutters. The cutters are made from four pieces - two handle pieces and two cutting pieces. One of the cutting pieces can be adjusted to allow three different cutting positions.
History / Summary
These British wire cutters were found by members of the Australian Historical Mission (AHM) to Gallipoli on 23 February 1919 at Rhododendron Ridge (Spur).
The AHM, led by Official Historian C E W Bean, visited Gallipoli from February to March 1919 to collect items for the nation, to record the area through artworks and photographs, and to explore the battlefields to answer some of the 'riddles of Anzac' for the Australian official history of the war.
