Description

Constable Robert (Bob) Sobey (left) and another unidentified Australian Police Officer watching a supporters' rally for President Aristide. They are members of the Multinational Force (MNF), Haiti, which was authorised by the Security Council of the United Nations and was instructed to bring about the end to the regime that ousted the country's democratically elected government in 1991, and ensure the return of President Aristide. The MNF was authorised in July 1994, was led by the United States and included police officers from a number of countries including Australia. It was in Haiti until 31 March 1995 when the United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH) formally took over. The MNF was the first overseas mission where Australian Police Officers were armed.
