Studio portrait of Lieutenant Albert Arthur Orchard, 10th Field Ambulance Brigade, of Launceston, Tas. Prior to enlisting in the AIF on 27 August 1914 as 2000 Bombardier (Bdr), he served with the 92nd Infantry, Citizens Military Forces. Bdr Orchard embarked from Hobart, Tas aboard HMAT Geelong on 20 October 1914 and returned to Australia on 18 July 1919. He was awarded the Military Cross for 'conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations against the Hindenburg Line south of Vendhuile on the night 27th/28th September 1918'.
