Senussi Hobbles
Description
These hobbles for a horse or camel were collected from one of the battlefields in Egypt by the Australian Light Horse.
History / Summary
The Senussi were a powerful Muslim sect based in Libya and the Sudan. They fought a largely guerilla war against British forces in Egypt from late 1915 until early 1917. The Senussi were encouraged by Ottoman Turkey to attack British outposts and took a number of prisoners. Eventually, after a series of battles, the Senussi were defeated by the Western Frontier Force made up of British and Australian forces.
