Description
Some unidentified members of the 1st Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) Squadron, Royal Australian Armoured Corps, having a wash and something to eat during Operation Ingham. There are five M113A1 APCs visible, parked nose to tail and their .50 calibre M2 Browning heavy machine guns have all been traversed to the port side facing the probable direction of the enemy. None of these vehicles have been fitted with gun shields to protect the vehicle commander. As the war in South Vietnam progressed, Australian APCs were up-armoured (on the belly and sponsons) and retrofitted with gun shields or M74C and T50 turrets, all of which afforded better protection for the crew and passengers.
