Studio portrait of 11715 Gunner (Gnr) John McDonald, of Croydon, NSW (previously of Macksville, NSW). Gnr McDonald enlisted in the RAN on 25 October 1919. He was killed in action on 9 August 1942 when the ship on which he was serving, HMAS Canberra, was sunk during the Battle of Savo Island. He was aged 37 years.
