Description
During Operation Atherton, three members of 1 Platoon, A Company, 8RAR, lie in an ambush position as the platoon stops possibly in preparation for bivouacing for the night. The soldier (left) is looking down the sights of his M60 machinegun, while the soldier next to him has his L1A1 Self Loading Rifle (SLR) set up and pointing in the same direction. Operation Atherton, the battalion's first in Vietnam, is a reconnaissance and ambush operation in the northwest of the province.
