During Operation Atherton, 3794423 Private Raymond John Asmus of 1 Platoon, A Company, 8RAR, moves cautiously through the jungle undergrowth with his L1A1 Self Loading Rifle (SLR). Pte Asmus was on a patrol out from Fire Support Base (FSB) Peggy in Area of Operations (AO) Zulu. Operation Atherton, the battalion's first in Vietnam, was a reconnaissance and ambush operation in the northwest of the province.
