Description

Fully armed and their faces daubed with camouflage paint, members of D (Delta) Company, 8RAR, set out from the unit lines towards Kapyong Pad where they will board Iroquois helicopters of No. 9 Squadron RAAF. The three men in the front row are each carrying M60A1 General Purpose machine guns. The choppers will transport the men to the northern section of Phuoc Tuy Province where they will take part in Phase II of Operation Nudgee in collaboration with B and C Companies and the US 2nd Infantry Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. The Americans are to sweep a large area in the central west of the province looking for the Viet Cong D440 Provincial Mobile Battalion, with D Company to occupy a blocking position to the northeast of the Area of Operations.
