D Company, 8th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (8RAR) was supporting United States (US) forces who were sweeping through the Courtney Rubber plantation. US intelligence reports placed the Viet Cong’s D440 battalion in the area. The Aussies were in ambush to prevent the escape of D440.
