Description

A section of a platoon from D (Delta) Company, 8RAR, makes its way on patrol through long grass and scrub in the northern section of the province during Phase II of Operation Nudgee. The operation is being carried out in collaboration with B and C Companies and the US 2nd Infantry Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. The Americans are sweeping a large area in the central west of the province looking for the Viet Cong D440 Provincial Mobile Battalion, with D Company to occupy a blocking position to the northeast of the Area of Operations. In pursuit of this task, the company is setting up ambushes along expected enemy escape routes. The soldier in the foreground is carrying a sack full of M16A1 anti-personnel mines for use in the ambushes.
