Description

An M113A1 Repair Fitters Vehicle from 3 Cavalry Regiment uses its HIAB model 173 hydraulic crane to lift two 44-gallon drums of fuel as it helps a soldier to arrange drums into stacks. The vehicle, whose call sign is nine eight alpha (98A) and nickname the 'White Winged Worrier', has a tarpaulin erected over the turret to protect the crew from rain and sun. Helicopters have just delivered the barrels of fuel to Night Defensive Position (NDP) Beverley which is about 30 kilometres east of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base at Nui Dat. The fuel is to be used by engineers from 1 Field Squadron RAE to set fire to enemy rice padis and vegetable gardens as part of Operation Massey Harris, a food-denial operation.
