Description
During Phase 2 of Operation Bondi I, a Vietnamese interpreter serving with 5RAR leans against a Citroen 2CV car as he watches a stream of villagers from the hamlet of Duc My walk along a dirt road to a screening area between Binh Ba and Duc Trung where their identities will be checked by members of 1st Division Intelligence Unit. The villagers include many children and a woman carrying an infant. The entire populace of Duc My is being moved to the screening area after 5RAR conducted a cordon and search of the hamlet. The interpreter is armed with an M16 rifle, while the car belongs to the manager of the local French-owned rubber plantation. The villagers are employees of the plantation.
