Description

At Fire Support Base (FSB) Baton, an FSB of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), the gun crew of a 105mm M2A2 Howitzer of 101 Field Battery Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) fires and re-loads their gun. The gunners are shelling an area designated for a landing zone, prior to infantry being flown in by helicopter. The operation was mounted hurriedly as an addition to Operation Mundingburra, after the company commander of C2 Company of the Viet Cong D445 Battalion surrendered under the Chieu Hoi program and revealed the battalion's location in the east of the province. D445 slipped away, however, before Australian, New Zealand and ARVN forces could trap it.
