Description

On the day before 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR), is due to depart from Vietnam, officers line up on parade at a memorial service for members of D (Delta) Company who lost their lives during the battalion's tour of duty. The men are, left to right: An Australian Army chaplain, a captain from D Company, a New Zealand Army chaplain and the D Company commander, 6776 Major Harry Arthur Smith, MC. Facing the camera at left, behind the officers, is a senior NCO. An important part of the ceremony involves the laying and dedication of a plaque inscribed with the names of the fallen, including those killed at the Battle of Long Tan.
