Description
Portrait of VX7023 Private (Pte) Ronald Kenneth Barrie who served with 2/8 Battalion in the Middle East during 1940 -1941. In April 1941 he was sent to Greece with his Battalion, which was soon evacuated from Kalamata to Crete, commencing on 26 April 1941. On 20 May 1941 German Paratroops invaded Crete and Pte Barrie was captured where he spent the next four years as a German prisoner of war, being interned in Poland and Germany. At the end of the war, Pte Barrie was repatriated back to Australia and was discharged from the army on 26 September 1945. He is wearing the ribbon for the Africa Star.
