Studio portrait of 6053 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Arthur Henry McSpadden, 4th Battalion. A miner of Lue, NSW, McSpadden enlisted as a Private on 23 January 1916. He embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 22 August 1916 with the 19th Reinforcements. He was wounded in action with a gun shot wound to the head on 5 May 1917 and upon recovery rejoined his unit. He was promoted to L Cpl on 6 August 1917 and was wounded in action for a second time on 5 October 1917. L Cpl McSpadden was killed in action on 14 April 1918 in France, aged 24. He has no known grave and is commemorated at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.
