Description
Family portrait of William Arthur O'Brien (standing, right) with his parents, Sarah (left) and Francis (right) and six younger brothers. William O'Brien enlisted on 21 September 1914 as 2108 Private in the 6th Battalion. He died on 11 May 1915, aged 21, aboard hospital ship HMT Royal George of wounds received on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Two of his brothers, Frank (back, centre) and Alfred (back, left) also later enlisted and served in the First World War, and both returned home.
