Description

Members of the Royal Australian Engineers attend a memorial service for Australian aircraft crash victims killed on 13 August 1940, killing ten people including four senior Australian Government officials. Those killed were Brigadier the Honourable G Street MP, the Minister of State for Army and Repatriation; the Honourable Sir Henry Gullet MP, Vice President of the Executive Council; the Honourable J Fairbairn MP, Minister for Air and Civil Aviation; Lieutenant General Sir Brudenell White, Chief of General Staff; Mr R E Elford, Private Secretary to the Minister for Air; 115 Flight Lieutenant Robert Edward Hitchcock, pilot; 607 Pilot Officer Richard Frederick Wiesener, assistant pilot; 213 Corporal John Frederick Palmer, wireless operator; and 6673 Aircraftman Charles Joseph Crosdale, fitter.
