Studio portrait of 178 Private Daniel Riley Styles, 26th Battalion, of Gympie, Qld. Son of Mary Kate Styles. A telephonist prior to enlisting on 6 April 1915, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 24 May 1915. He was killed in action on 29 July 1916 in France, aged 19. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
