Studio portrait of Lieutenant (later Captain) George Achilles Smith 3rd Battalion, Imperial Camel Corps, of Muswellbrook, NSW. Son of the late James and Annie Townshend Smith; husband of Leila M. Smith, of Burringbar, New South Wales. A bank accountant prior to enlisting he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Clan MacEwen (A65) on 28 June 1915 with 6th Light Horse Regiment. He was killed in action on 9 January 1917 at Rafa, Palestine, aged 34. He is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
